Music Producers - Why Not Sell Your Beats Online?

As a music producer in the New York City area I have seen a lot of artists as well as labels and big time studio's come and go. For some people they were just done with the music business and decided to do something new while others were pushed out. I am one of the lucky ones I have been producing since the age of 15 and I am now 31 years young. Things are different from the times when albums sold 8 million copies without even trying, so what happen? I feel that the fans and the artists and in some cases the producers have been neglected.

Major record labels have been getting greedier finding new ways to rape artists and producers. How can you blame the Internet for record sales being down? As of today there are 500 million people on Facebook if only 50 million of them brought albums that is still good money. Major labels do not know how to connect with the people anymore. Let's face it the music on the radio sucks and the labels have lost control and they do not know what to do next.

That is why as a music producer you have to be up on your game right now. Since 2001 I have seen so many producers, be it know or unknown make the transition to selling beats online. For some major producers they looked at it as a smack in the face and this showed me they know nothing about making money they only know how to make beats. It's not their fault the labels kept them busy so they would not figure out how the system works. Now you have these once hot producers stuck with nowhere to go sitting on millions of dollars worth of beats. These once hot music producers, have no idea how much money is online so some choose to bash the whole Internet.

The one thing I have learned in my life is you cannot let pride keep you broke. Some producers feel they have to come online and sell beats for crack head prices. That is up to you and how you want to brand your product online it's all in your marketing. The myths about selling beats online are started by people who never even tried to sell beats at all. This is the best time to get beat sales online and offline like never before. Recording artist, out number music producers online 500 to 1 so you always have new clients. You just have to know how to communicate with them and build trust. The Internet allows you to be everywhere every time twenty-four seven three sixty-five days out the year. Now tell me wouldn't you like to be apart of that?

I have been in the presents of billion dollar Internet marketers from around the world and they say the same thing before you decide to sell any products online have a plan. I agree with that 100% as a music producer that has seen 16 year olds sell beats online and make any where from $8,000 to $15,000 a month they all had one thing in common they had a plan.

In conclusion, like it or not the Internet has changed the music business as we know it. This has to be the best time ever to be a music producer no more working on other people terms and being told what you can and can't create. Remember life is about taking risk and daring to be different nobody remembers the gimmick they remember where the gimmick came from.

MySpace Music Ignores Independent Music

Independent music has been a driving force during the development of MySpace, and now the social network has ignored its core when it launched the new MySpace Music. The new deal with Amazon.com makes them a new competitor against iTunes and Napster.

After signing a deal with the 4 major labels (Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, EMI Music, and Warner Music Group, Inc.) MySpace and its business partners could benefit from the indie artists, but will they return the benefits?

You can always say that yes, an indie artist being featured next to a signed artist could help their exposure. But does the artist gain the same amount of benefits as the major label?

1. The independent artist doesn't see a fixed amount of money coming in from the on-site advertising deals that MySpace creates, because of MySpace Music.

2. The indie artist has to count on, whoever checks out their page, actually listens to their music, instead of it being forced into their ears by consistent radio airplay.

3. Ever since the News Corp. buy-out, the social network has been geared toward mainstream music. As of today, I only see 1 independent artist featured next to a whole page of mainstream artists.

Is that really helping independent music out?

MySpace is not an artist's, or band's website. News Corp. can one day say, "Let's get rid of these pages." The page is owned by them, not the artist who put so much work into maintaining the page.

This type of deal should really send a message to an indie band, or artist, which is, "I should have my own website." The artist is free to post/sell their music, merchandise, and what ever they have to market themselves, and it can not be taken away.

Yes, MySpace is a free outlet, but there is a price to pay if you do not go by their standards. It is a great marketing tool, but that is it. All the friends, music, and layouts that an indie artist has worked to get can all be gone one day.

Did Chopin's Piano Hold Any Secrets About His Romantic Piano Music?

The music of Frederic Chopin is widely studied even over 200 years after it has been composed. Elegant and brilliant melodies are sought after by aspiring piano students worldwide, who work hours on end to master the capabilities needed to play the composer's 24 Etude's, for example, and perhaps formulate their own interpretation. Many of the works, in fact, were created on versions of the piano that were just being invented during the industrial revolution, and many people at the time were mystified by the sounds that could be created.

In the early 19th century, there were many scientific discoveries and new products being developed. The general public didn't know what to make of many things, and the birth of new music from instruments never before built was included in the realm of new possibilities at the time. As a teenager, Chopin taught himself the piano on an early version invented by the English. Different models were invented by various companies in Vienna, London, and Paris, where the composer ended up in 1832 to give a recital.

The piano settled on by the composer was a state-of-the-art instrument that had a range of over six and a half octaves. The soundboard and cast-iron frame were design to tolerate high tension from the steel strings, and a right pedal was included to prolong sound and notes, while a left-hand, or una corda pedal made for more gentle sounds. The new design of the hammer allowed rapid repetition of notes that made the piano more versatile in the range of sounds it could produce.

The new capabilities of the piano during that time could have led people to believe there were secrets to his romantic music. The sounds coming out of the instrument were likely never heard by anybody at the time, making Chopin seem like even more of a master, not to play down the composer as the genius that he was.

The composer's piano allowed a player to utilize the full range of the instrument and use both hands to create unprecedented sounds and melodies. The difficulty in getting more advanced pianos delivered didn't deter him from composing, however. In Valldemosa, a piano that the romanticist referred to as a tin pot still allowed him to work on Well-Tempered Clavier by Bach. An upright piano was supposed to have been delivered from Paris at the time, but there were many delays, so it is thought that he composed a few major Romantic pieces on the small piano.

Despite situations where more advanced piano designs were not available, Chopin still composed innovative and to this day, well-known and respected, pieces of music. Somebody with such phenomenal talent can create music on any instrument that is available; expressing their talent and emotions on whatever there is to communicate their musical virtuosity. The composer's ability to play and harmonize by ear at a young age and also master the piano so quickly is also proof of his capacity for talent.

The question as to whether the piano held any secrets about the Romantic piano music of Chopin is debatable. New technology at the time allowed for things people then never heard before. With the rapid changes in technology today, the public is more accustomed to seeing new inventions on a regular basis. Whether he played on a more contemporary design such as an aeolopantaleon or an instrument more like the modern piano, the composer was able to create and play astonishingly elegant and diverse music, so perhaps the only secret was the gift of genius the man possessed that bypassed the cultural trends of the time.

Andy West is a writer on subjects relating to instrumental music. One of the greatest composers of our time, Chopin, is still inspiring young pianists to develop their talent.

Crank Dat Roy - New Dance Phenomenon From the South

Have you heard about crank dat roy yet? If you haven't then you must be living under a rock. This new dance is not like one of those usual 'crank dat' songs that have been getting extreme popularity recently. This is a dance started out of Orangeburg, South Carolina.

A young guy named JQ is responsible for this new craze and now it is hitting radio airways everywhere. JQ has opened up shows for many hip hop as well as rhythm and blues artists and definitely has a promising future in the music business.

So what's with the crank dat roy dance? Is it hard to do? Well when I personally gave it a try I found it to be much harder than it looks. The spinning, the stepping and various other routines in this dance are quite unique.

Just go to any social networking site like YouTube, MySpace or Facebook and you're bound to see video footage of tons of teens and even a few adults doing this new dance. The elroy is getting a lot of play in South Carolina clubs and is even being played in places like Wisconsin.

Just to show you how up on things our teenagers are, I asked my son about 'The Elroy'. Being the parent that I am I wondered if he knew the dance and the song. To my surprise he did and told me that it's been around for a while now. He even knew the steps like a pro.

Samsung F210 and F200 New Music Phones

Music phones are becoming a popular option for consumers not wishing to carry with them more than one device whilst out and about, with mobile phones offering ever increasing memory and updated music software there is now storage space on a par with top standalone MP3 Players such as the iPods to save enough tracks and playlists to keep most music enthusiasts satisfied.

Samsung Mobile released a new music phone that took this one step further with the Samsung X830, the phone was designed very much with an MP3 player in mind and because of its size and dimensions was able to be worn around the neck on a lanyard making it easier to wear earphones rather than hidden in an inside pocket.

Following on from the X830, the manufacturer has now released two upgraded versions with a better camera resolution, updated music software and an expanded feature set, these new devices are part of the new F-Series of Samsung phones and share the same compact design as the X830 in that they too can be worn around the neck.

The two new handsets are the Samsung F200 and Samsung F210 music phones.

Both models feature the unique swivel actions of the X830, whereas the user simply slides the underneath of the phone around 180 degrees to reveal the keypad and effectively doubles the length of the phone so the distance between the speaker and the microphone are a perfect fit to the face.

The F200 is the budget version not offering a camera and with a smaller internal memory it concentrates purely on music, calls and text.
The Samsung F210 is a far more interesting device that offers a 2.0 megapixel camera compared to the 1.3 megapixel of the X830 as well as a very healthy internal memory of 1GB that can be expanded further with the use of MicroSD memory cards.
The F210 is very slightly larger than the original X830 simply to accommodate the extra features and specification but only weighs 2g more at just 76g so will not be uncomfortable when worn around the neck.

The exterior of the phone is finished in a light grey graphite colour and offers a metallic jog dial that gives access to the music player, phonebook and menu functions when the handset is closed.

Other F210 features include TriBand frequency for global roaming, Bluetooth technology for wireless connections to compatible devices for data transfer and hands-free conversation, integrated music player with the option to create playlists and an FM radio for keeping updated with local and national news and weather reports as well as enjoying a new tune.

The built-in camera has zoom function and flash and is capable of video recording and playback all of which can be stored on the ample internal memory before sharing via Bluetooth or sending via text message or even downloaded to a PC using a cable.

The F210 also offers a large TFT 1.5 inch display screen, ideal for viewing photos and video clips captured with the camera.

Users of the X830 will welcome these new F-Series additions to Samsung's product portfolio especially with the larger memory, better camera and upgraded features of the F210.

The Brand New Ford Fiesta - Music to Everyone's Ears

There has been an advert recently broadcast on television which depicts a disassembled Ford Focus reassembled as a small orchestra of musical instruments. This particular idea got me thinking about the sort of music other cars might represent. Apparently the Focus produces stately sounding classical music, with very elegant tones and understated beauty. I disagree with this entirely; to me the Ford Focus represents the car for the everyman and as you are no doubt aware, classical music isn't everyone's cup of tea. In my humble opinion, the Ford Focus would sound like pop music for the middle aged; U2, Mike & The Mechanics and all those bands that everyone over 35 has on cassette and is waiting to transfer to MP3 ("whatever that means!"). Cars like the BMW Z4 would probably sound like whatever smarmy estate agents listen to...Coldplay, I guess...and would generally leave people feeling a little bit less inclined to get out of bed in the mornings.

As I created a list in my head of all these cars and their respective soundtracks I repeatedly came up against the same conundrum over and over again; what music accurately represents the brand new Ford Fiesta?

The difficulty here is that the new Ford Fiesta is a chameleon amongst the automotive industry. It changes its character completely dependent on who is sat behind the steering wheel. If you put a 17 year old in the driving seat, the Fiesta could easily represent the cutting edge of dance/electronic, with all the stylish bodywork and eye-catching colour options. You could also feasibly stick a bearded 50 year old man in it and all of a sudden it would sound like a Charlie Mingus Jazz opus, all angular, improvised and free. I just couldn't pin the Fiesta down to one particular target demographic. That's when it hit me; the engineers and designers who created the new Ford Fiesta must be absolute geniuses.

There are very few cars available that aren't particularly targeted to one consumer type. BMW's are designed for executives, the VW Golf GTi is tailored for twenty something men trying to impress women with growling engines and the Fiat 500 is designed for women who have no taste. The Brand New Ford Fiesta has successfully defied market generalisation and will therefore enjoy a considerably larger market share as a result. The question is; how on Earth have Ford managed to achieve this?

In my opinion they either conducted one of the largest market research projects in history, or they have some clever people in their workshops who have a pretty good idea of how to please everyone. The Ford Fiesta combines understated but stylish looks, excellent handling, high performance engines, great safety ratings and unrivalled reliability. Who could ask for more in a car that is available on the road for less than £8,000?

To me, the Brand New Ford Fiesta represents the perfect automotive choice for anyone, regardless of age, sex, or any other attribute you care to combat it with. Ford has done the impossible and has manufactured a car that anyone would look respectable whilst driving.

So what of the Fiesta's soundtrack? Well if you ask me it would sound like a screaming Jimi Hendrix solo that burst into life every time you turned the key in the ignition. But that's just my opinion...

Pete J Ridgard is a writer and a car enthusiast. He currently writes for the automotive industry. Here he discusses the Brand New Ford Fiesta.
